April 27, 2023 – At its April 13, 2023, meeting, the board of directors of the Fonds de recherche du Québec— Santé (FRQS) approved $122.1 million in awards and grants (new awards and commitments) for 2023–2024.
As announced on April 27, the FRQS is handing out 467 new awards this year: 128 new master’s awards, 273 new doctoral awards and 66 new postdoctoral awards, for a total of $14.8 million for 2023–2024.
This amount will be added to the FRQS’s previous commitments, totalling $27 million in support for research training through scholarship, fellowship and internship programs.
An impressive 137 new career awards, representing about $7.3 million, were also announced. These awards are part of an investment of more than $32.5 million by the FRQS to support careers in research (new awards and commitments).
Grants for partnership research projects, including international collaborations, come to a total of $11.3 million. Research groups (including research centres and institutes, thematic networks, strategic clusters and affiliated university centres) will also receive $51.2 million from the FRQS in 2023–2024.
In addition, the FRQS will contribute $5.5 million to initiatives to tackle major societal challenges: sustainable development and the impacts of climate change and digital technologies, demographic change and ageing, entrepreneurship and creativity, and a fourth new science and society component. These amounts include not only new funding offers, but also applications the FRQS had already committed to funding.
